Baitcasting reels

okuma baitcasting reels:

Maintenance advice

okuma suggest the following basic maintenance
guidelines for optimum performance.

  • After each fishing trip we recommend lightly spraying down your reel with freshwater and then gently wiping away all moisture with a soft clean towel.

  • Do not submerge or use a hard direct spray of freshwater on the reel as this can drive debris such as salt, sand, oils and many other contaminants into the core of your reel. This type of misuse will leave your reel's internal parts to be exposed to standing water that can lead to future problems.

  • Another good means of protection is to use a water displacing lubricant. This helps take away the smallest amounts of water and will form a barrier between your reel and corrosive elements.

  • It is important to completely back off your drag when you are done fishing. To do this, first grab the star drag that is located at the base of the reel handle. Then turn the drag knob counterclockwise to loosen the drag. When you go fishing again you can simply turn the star drag clockwise to reengage your drag system (Note: this is best done after the reel has been washed).

  • Periodically you will want to add a small drop of light machine grade oil to the handle nut and the clicker button as well as other moving parts. It is also important to apply the same oil to the worm gear of the level wind mechanism.
Okuma recommends that at least once a year you have your reel serviced. if you spend a lot of time on the water with your reel you may want to have it serviced more frequently.

  • By following these simple steps you will prolong the life of your reel.
